The College Board offers advanced placement (AP) chemistry, also known as AP chem, as a course and exam as part of the advanced placement program that allows high school students in the United States and Canada to demonstrate their skills and earn college-level credit at some colleges and universities.
The AP chemistry curriculum consists of two main components — science practice and academic content. As you progress through the course, you will learn scientific practices because they are integrated into the course content. These two core components of the AP Chemistry curriculum are interdependent and will be part of your learning material from the beginning.
The actual course content is divided into units that will cover a range of topics and concepts in AP chemistry. These concepts are important for a solid foundation in medicine and colleges expect you to get them right in order to qualify for a college degree. Each unit of the course is based on one or more of the 4 Big Ideas of AP Chemistry. These concepts are the basic concepts that play an important role in pharmacology.
